Restaurant Night- Sign up now! Restaurant Night' is about relaxing together with great food and great people. We hope this outing will be the first of many culinary adventures in Chicago. On Friday, April 11th , at 7:30 pm, we will meet at Los Nopales, an excellent Mexican Restaurant on Western at Wilson. Nopales means cactus so if you're curious what it tastes like, this is your chance. Rest assured, though, if cactus is not your cup of tea, there something on the menu for everyone. This is a pay-your-own-way event- the menu is affordable, and it's byob. |

Friday March 21st at noon For the 27th year, the Chicago community will to join in acknowledging the crucifixion in its many contemporary manifestations. The social issues of our time are incorporated with the Stations of the Cross. The Good Friday Walk for Justice is a public witness of solidarity with those today who continue to be condemned and burdened; who grieve and weep; who are tortured, stripped of dignity and executed. The 2007 theme of RISE UP! Say “Yes” – yes, to RISE UP! is to be counted on to join with and support the many communities of resistance working toward true justice and peace. Gather at the corner of Congress and Michigan. The walk ends at the Thompson Center at Clark and Randolph. There will be 5 stops that will mark the Stations of the Cross.  Brothers and Sisters of the Chicago Metropolitan Association: Our help is still very much needed!
As the fifth largest body of churches in the United Church of Christ, it
seems to me that we of CMA should be able to provide the fifth
largest amount of help to those whose lives are still scattered across the Gulf Coast, don’t you? We have a way to go, and I know we can do this!
Our trip last year was a rich and rewarding time. Ask any of us who were there! We put up drywall, painted, wired telephones, and tiled and grouted floors. And, we did those things without having any special skills. We went with open hearts and eager hands that enabled us to learn new skills. (We also had some good teachers.)
But more important than fixing walls, floors and doors, we helped heal lives that had come close to being destroyed.
Our government has provided only minimal physical help, and nothing in the way of leadership. They have written off most of the people of New Orleans, casting them aside as though they were just a bunch of plastic grocery bags. Once home to 425,000 or so, New Orleans is now home to only about 140,000. Most of it’s residents have not returned from all of the places to which they were forced to run for fear of being swept away by the furious forces of Hurricane Katrina.
The good news is that if you wanted to add your hands and heart to those in distress, you still can! Go get your hands dirty and know the joy of watching someone get their home and their life back.
There is no shortage of people who would like to return to their former homes, or home sites. (Many homes simply disappeared in the onslaught of water.)
THERE IS A SHORTAGE OF PEOPLE TO DO THE WORK.

Each group will consist of twenty (20) volunteers. Housing in New Orleans will be at St. Paul UCC, at 600 Eleonore Street, in the beautiful old Garden District of the city.
